Secondary School “Konstantin Velichkov” – town of Plovdiv is a municipal mainstream school located in the “South” region.It borders with the South industrial zone with a lot of industrial enterprises, trade agencies, hypermarkets and warehouses.They provide employment for the population of the region and nearby settlements.The region is densely built-up and populated and is growing in the southern direction. Traditionally Secondary School “Konstantin Velichkov” is attended by students from the area. It is expected that the number of students will increase since some village schools were closed. There are also 2 pre-school groups in the school itself. This entire educational complex provides educational services from pre-school age 5-6 to 12th grade. In 2012 the school building was fully renovated and acquired a modern aspect. Secondary School “Konstantin Velichkov” offers general and specialised schooling and training for about 450 students carried out by 50 highly- qualified specialists for students from 1st to 12th grade in the following majors: choreography, field hockey - for students from 1st to 8th grade, IT, languages, Biology and Chemistry – for students from 9th to 12th grade. English and German are taught intensively in the curriculum. For more than 15 years the school has been accredited for practice training of students from the University of Plovdiv with major “Bulgarian language and Literature” and since 2009 education and integration of children with special educational needs/ SEN/. Currently we have about 20 children with special needs and some more children with educational difficulties.For these children are available 3 special resource rooms , a sports hall and 5 resource teachers, including 2 speech therapists and psychologist. Our school is open and supportive for every student with its individual needs. About 10 students from Institutions also attend our school.The following other facilities function in the school: three up-to-date computer rooms, a logopedic room, a medical care room, two gyms, a canteen, a schoolyard with a field hockey playground, a conference hall. For the students from 1st to 5th grade all-day schooling is provided. In the last 7 years a lot of national and international projects have been carried out aimed at improving the educational environment, meeting undividual needs of every child, decreasing the risks of dropping out, carrying out the priciples of inclusion, achieving higher educational results. Over 15 clubs with 200 participants function in the school financed by a National programme. Students are trained in different fields according their skills and interests – grass hockey, cookery, IT, art, history etc. The school is experienced in Erasmus+ projects. We have successfully carried out 3 Erasmus+ including one for innovative teaching. Currently we are working on 4 more pojects. The project team gained experience and is highly motivated to expand and continue project work acknowledging that it has had great influence on personal development and growth of both students and teachers. The team also includes Mrs. Krasimira Ivanova and Miss Tsveta Borisova – school coordinators, Mrs.Bashikova – English teacher, Mrs Dimitrova - Bulgarian language teacher, Ms. Doykova – IT teacher, administrator of the school website, Mrs.Stavreva – Biology and chemistry teacher, Mrs. Panijhel – Art teacher and school phychologist. All they have good command of English and are prepared to replace and substitute each other if needed.The school management- the principal Mrs. Raycheva and vice-principals Mrs. Chobanova and Keremedchieva and all staff members are supportive in projects’ development and implementation.
